Review

My Halo Is Choking Me! is a series of short stories about the author’s
encounters with clients as she goes about her job as a nurse in a rural
part of Ontario. The encounters range from the humorous to the tragic.
One of the author’s clients, a farmer, had been hospitalized in a
psychiatric hospital but stopped taking his medication on discharge.
Despite of the author’s valiant attempts to keep him mentally healthy,
he became convinced that airplanes were flying through his parlor and
wound up burning down his house. After hearing of this, Andrews wondered
if she, or the health system, had failed the farmer; there is no easy
answer to this question.

Intended for a lay audience, this poignant and accessible book is
recommended for those interested in the challenges of home healthcare.
