Review

Don Weekes, a Montreal CFCF television producer and writer, is the
author of six hockey trivia books including these. Although the books
share a similar organizational format, Old-Time Hockey Trivia limits
itself to the National Hockey League’s “Original Six Era” (which
began in 1942 and concluded with the league’s expansion in 1967),
while Hockey, Hockey, Hockey focuses on NHL hockey during the 1990s.
Unlike other trivia books offering interesting miscellanea, these two
are designed to challenge readers’ hockey knowledge.

To demonstrate their expertise, readers must respond to crossword
puzzles, true/false questions, fill-in-the-blanks, word-matching
puzzles, “who-am-I” questions, multiple-choice questions,
“who-said-it” quizzes, and word-find puzzles. Most of the answers
are provided at the backs of the books. However, for the multiple-choice
and true/false quizzes—the most frequently utilized formats—the
correct responses immediately following the question blocks, an
arrangement that permits Weekes not just to supply the correct answer,
but also to provide additional informative to give the answer context.
NHL fans who want to test their knowledge of the game’s

history will delight in the books’ demanding contents.

Though the books’ consumable nature may be potentially off-putting to
some public libraries, the books would be useful additions to hockey
collections. School libraries, however, may want to limit themselves to
the more contemporary Hockey, Hockey, Hockey.
