Review

“The cats sat in their boxes and stared at me. One pair of green eyes.
One pair of yellow eyes. One pair of blue eyes. Cats give me the
creeps.” Despite his fear of cats, TJ agrees to help the best
grandmother in the world (who had to fly to Hawaii) by taking care of
her four cats, assisted by his best friend, Seymour. The two boys decide
to learn more about cats (their history, physiology, etc.) by making
them the subject of their science project. The cats, of course, become a
challenge when they decide to hide, run off, and throw up furballs.

TJ and the Cats is not only humorous but informative, replete with
fascinating cat details such as “When a cat died in ancient Egypt, it
was mummified and placed in a jeweled coffin, and the owners shaved
their eyebrows to show how sad they were.” A great book to share with
children who have a fear of cats. Highly recommended.
