Review

This novel by freelance writer, teacher, and science journalist Jamieson
Findlay is a mesmerizing story about the magical bond between a young
girl and a wild mare. Syeira and the wild mare, Arwin, set out to rescue
Arwin’s two colts when they are stolen by the evil Lord Ran. The
journey to Thurckport, Lord Ran’s fortified city by the sea, takes
Syeira and Arwin across a treacherous river and through a dark and
dangerous forest. When they finally arrive at Lord Ran’s stronghold
and see the fortifications and guards, the pair realize it will take all
their initiative and courage to free Arwin’s offspring.

The book’s mystical quality is summed up in the opening lines:
“Nobody knew much abut Syeira except that she had been born in a river
stable among old horses and the ghost of horses.” Like J.K.
Rowling’s Harry Potter adventures, The Blue Roan Child will enchant
readers of all ages. Highly recommended.
