Review

This call to action is essentially a collection of photographs by
Beverley Abramson depicting kids in motion. Each image is accompanied by
a descriptive word or short phrase. A girl walking uphill to keep her
kite airborn: “Fly.” A boy in mid-air having just launched a soccer
ball: “Kick it High.” A toddler with one foot lifted: “Skip.” A
young child learning to pedal her tricycle: “Take a trip.” The
children featured in the photographs are wonderfully diverse in age and
ethnicity, and uniformly engaged in their joyful physical endeavours.

If you read this book as a narrative, it will take less than half a
minute. In fact, the addition of the words is almost intrusive and can
severely limit the reading. But if you use it as an incentive to invite
your child to play, to try out this and that, the book offers a new
adventure for each reading. Recommended.
