Review

The premise behind this latest offering from the 38 Ways to Entertain
Your… series is that vacation properties come without the benefit of
TVs, DVD players, computers, and other accoutrements of home required to
keep kids occupied during the long summer break. Be that as it may, this
volume comes with plenty of alternatives to the aforementioned, but with
a twist: these are ways to keep parents entertained!

Vacation-themed recipes (Peachy Pizzas, Tuna Turtles), arts and crafts
ideas (origami kitten, sun hats from newspapers), games to create and
play (Never-Be-Bored, Salamander Snap), songs and rhymes to compose, and
things to see and do on nature walks (animal scat, flashlight in a jar)
abound in this volume. The materials or ingredients necessary for each
activity are listed along with clear, detailed, and frequently
illustrated directions for completion. Most of the items required are
readily available (even on vacation) and safety issues are addressed.
Kitty Macaulay’s colourful, cartoonlike illustrations add to the fun
and enjoyment.

Whether the purpose is, in fact, to entertain parents or to keep the
kids from getting bored, 38 Ways to Entertain Your Parents on Summer
Vacation provides plenty of suggestions for doing just that.
Recommended.
