Review

Luke knows his best friend Patrick too well to buy the police
department’s theory that he has deliberately run away from home on the
eve of his birthday. The mystery becomes even more baffling when Luke
sees Patrick three months later and his friend doesn’t recognize him.
Then Patrick is whisked away by men in suits who threaten Luke with his
life if he mentions the encounter. Despite the threat, Luke tells
Patrick’s sister Emma and the two decide to find Patrick themselves.
Their investigation leads them to a company that does genetic research.
There they learn that Patrick’s body has been taken over by the mind
of the former president of the company, and that they themselves are in
line to have their bodies taken over as well. With some help from an
employee who has just discovered the sinister plot, they escape their
horrid fates and expose the company and its criminals.

This story for preteens is basically plot-driven with very little
character development or setting. The fast action is riveting and
carries the reader through to the final pages. Recommended.
