Review

These two little (3" x 3") fist-sized editions are suitable first books
for the nursery novitiate. They present the well-known rhymes of their
titles with four or five words per page and accompanying illustrations.
The pages are thick, durable cardboard—ideal for very young
“readers,” who are apt to devour literature in every sense of the
term. Form follows function: the books themselves take the shape of a
teapot and a cake, respectively. The back of each book provides the
operator’s manual of gross-motor activities that can be used to
accompany the rhyme. Their brevity—about six pages—is an advantage
in that children can easily memorize the text, and so they can
self-sufficiently enjoy “reading.”
