Review

The children at Pokeweed Public School are snowed in and have to spend
the night at school. Principal Slugmeyer arranges a game of dodgeball,
and classroom teacher Ms. Mudwortz “whips up a whole bunch of
hayburgers and vegetarian pizzas.” The next day the snow clears and
the bus takes the children home, where their parents give them lunch;
they then head back for “another classic day at Pokeweed Public
School.”

Bianchi’s humorous text and illustrations make this kindly story
about children disguised as animals a happy choice for primary students.
Teachers will love its insightful commentary on school routines;
children will enjoy the large, bright drawings and shared experiences
common to their school day. Bianchi is the gifted author-illustrator of
the Bungalo Boys series, Princess Frownsalot, and many other picture
books.
