Review

It is pretty hard not to say “Awwwww!” out loud as you flip the
pages of a book that features adorable full-colour photos and
fascinating information about 16 of the most popular dogs in the world.

Featured breeds are the Labrador Retriever, Golden Retriever, German
Shepherd, Poodle, Shetland Sheepdog, Miniature Schnauzer, Yorkshire
Terrier, Beagle, Bichon Frise, Shih Tzu, Boxer, Bernese Mountain Dog,
Pomeranian, Soft-coated Wheaten Terrier, Border Collie, and Chihuahua.
Each breed receives a full-page write-up telling the reader fascinating
facts about the breed and two or more pictures of the dog as a puppy.
For example, the reader will learn that the Pomeranian (a little dog) is
related to the Samoyed and Husky (both big dogs), and that before
Pomeranians became lap dogs they were respected sheep herders. Medical
problems specific to the breed are also highlighted, such as the fact
that the Pomeranian needs its teeth brushed daily because the teeth in
its downsized mouth are often spaced too closely together.

In addition to the featured breeds, the book includes a chapter about
puppies in general, which covers breeds and mixes, genetic diseases, dog
shows, and dogs with jobs, among other topics, and a “Did You Know?”
section. This is a great book for any young animal lover. Highly
recommended.
