Review
Following the success of Camp X (2002) and Camp 30 (2004), Eric Walters
invites readers to another exciting tale of World War II espionage and
deceit, excitement and adventure, with a return to Camp X. Once again,
the story revolves around the often fearless, but always trouble-filled,
exploits of brothers Jack and George Braun.
George, again the first-person narrator, describes the drama that
ensues when thieves force the boys to help them gain access to Camp X.
With their mother held hostage, the Braun boys have little option but to
assist. The thieves’ elaborate plan is to steal the Bank of England
gold they believe is stored at Camp X.
Each succeeding page is filled with more and more action. Although the
brothers’ characters lack depth and substance and, occasionally,
believability, Walters’s fast-paced adventure will appeal to preteen
boys with an interest in World War II stories. Recommended.
