Review

This third in the “Simon” series by Tibo has spirited little Simon
trying to hurry the arrival of spring. His various efforts include tying
balloons to the leaves of flowers to help them grow and blowing on his
flute to call back the birds that have flown away for the winter.
Although Simon is disheartened by the failure of his attempts, his
discouragement quickly changes to joyful celebration when spring arrives
one day on its own.

The story is conveyed through a relatively sparse and simple text that
accompanies, however, a luscious richness of illustration that
distinguishes Tibo’s award-winning style. Even though Simon’s
activities are rendered in softly muted earth tones, his exuberance is
still abundantly clear. This is a delightful picture book.
