Review

The second Canadian-published Robyn Hunter mystery by Arthur Ellis Award
winner Norah McClintock finds Robyn embroiled in the disappearance of an
unpopular and weird classmate, Trisha. Weeks shy of celebrating her 16th
birthday, Robyn looks forward to her coming-of-age festivities. However,
when Trisha’s stepfather, Carl, begs Robyn’s father—an ex-cop and
security expert—to locate the habitual runaway for the sake of her ill
mother, Robyn worries that her actions might have contributed to
Trisha’s running away. Her investigation of the case leads her to the
world of street kids and troubled teens, and ultimately to Trisha.
Complications ensue before Robyn finally puts the pieces together.

Robyn’s friends Morgan and Billy, her divorced parents Mac and
Patricia, and her love interest, Nick, return in this adventure.
McClintock’s characteristic fast-paced prose, action-oriented plot,
various subplots, an entertaining cast of characters, and brisk dialogue
move the mystery to its successful conclusion. Robyn narrates events in
her conscientious, serious fashion. Perhaps not as engaging as Last
Chance, the novel should entertain fans and leave them eager for
Robyn’s next adventure. Recommended.
