Review

Today is Theodore’s birthday and all the boats in Halifax Harbour are
getting ready to celebrate. The cruise ship Greta has come all the way
from Germany for the event, arriving just that morning. Theodore hurries
off to welcome her and finds her fast asleep. Will he be able to stir
her from her heavy slumber in time for her to attend his party?

This charming tale contains a storyline with elements that generally
appeal to children (e.g., animated boats, birthday parties), some
tension, and a very happy ending. The illustrations are reminiscent of
the successful Thomas the Tank Engine series, employing bright primary
colours and simple facial features on the boats. The subtle shading
provides depth and interest. Recommended.
