Review

These volumes are identical in format to the earlier titles in this
highly acclaimed nature series (a complete listing is found inside the
back cover of each book). Each short chapter is introduced by a
full-page colour photograph. Captions in bold print and the sidebars
that conclude each chapter provide related facts and interesting details
about the featured animal. In Welcome to the World of Kangaroos, one
such example tells of a farmer who rescued an injured wallaby, taking it
home to care for it. That night a fire broke out. Doing what comes
naturally, the frightened wallaby thumped a warning with its strong back
feet, awakening the farmer. Both were able to flee the burning house.

The large, easy-to-read print and the abundance of photographs make
these books appealing and accessible to young readers. Yet the wealth of
information provided and the sophisticated vocabulary make them just as
valuable for older readers. Both books are highly recommended.
