Review

Grind delves into the popular world of skateboarding. The story, told in
the first person, is about Philip Falcone’s quest to become the next
skateboarding star.

After a chance meeting with Bam Bam Bradley, a professional skater,
Philip, along with his friend Wally, ex-girlfriend Lisa, and techie
Nevin, sets about creating a web page all about skateboarding. Their
goal is to make lots of money (they get a cent each time someone logs
on) and they’re willing to push it to the extreme to do this. Then
Wally gets injured skateboarding.

Eric Walters creates characters that are believable and
multi-dimensional. Philip is not really a good guy, but a bit of a
creep, having cheated on his girlfriend. He is also the driving force
behind the Internet venture and what brings all the others together.
When things start to turn bad, Philip has to make some hard choices, and
it is then that he learns about the value of friendship. Highly
recommended.
