Fifteen-year-old Brodie Bailey’s parents are divorced. Brodie is
living with his dad, who has just bought a sailboat, and they decide to
embark on a year-long ocean voyage together. While sailing in the
Caribbean—the most dangerous leg of their journey—Mr. Bailey is
swept overboard during a storm. Convinced that his father is still
alive, Brodie is determined to find him. Before long he does find
him—and still alive. But Mr. Bailey’s being held captive by a group
of Colombian kidnappers, and the kidnappers are demanding a ransom for
his return. Brodie must figure out a way to save his father.

Curtis Parkinson has created a highly suspenseful story that delves
into the little-known world of Colombian drug traffickers, guerrillas,
and paramilitaries. The story also delves into the world of a family
rendered dysfunctional by divorce, and shows how, despite everything, a
young teen can become an unlikely hero. This exciting adventure story is
highly recommended.
