Review

Using 32 stories from the Old Testament and 35 from the New Testament,
Lottridge brings to life a complex text that covers thousands of years
of biblical history and pre-history. From an embarrassment of riches,
she has chosen well. The first volume includes the Adam and Eve creation
story, Cain and Abel, Noah and the flood, the Tower of Babel, Sodom and
Gomorrah, Abraham and Isaac, Jacob and Esau, Jacob returning to Canaan,
Joseph and his brothers, Joseph in Egypt, Joshua in the promised land,
Ruth and Naomi, David and Goliath, Jonah and the Great Fish, Daniel in
the lion’s den, and the return to Jerusalem.

The second, slightly shorter volume includes the birth of Jesus, the
visit of the Magi, the gathering of the disciples, the wedding at Cana,
Jesus’ sermon on the mount, the Samaritan woman, Jesus calming the
storm and walking on water, his healing of a blind man, his entry into
Jerusalem, the Last Supper, Jesus’ trial and crucifixion, his burial
and resurrection, the road to Emmaus, and the risen Jesus.

The text is clear and lucid. Paragraphs are short, and the type is
larger than normal. The full-colour illustrations are both biblically
accurate and imaginative. Both books are highly recommended.
