Review

Kermit the Frog thought it was tough being green. Well imagine being
Elliot, an amiable mammal who only wants one thing—a hug.
Unfortunately for hug-hungry Elliot, there is one big problem. He is a
porcupine and no matter how cute and cuddly he tries to be, no one wants
to snuggle up to a walking pin cushion. When his friends decline to do
the needful, Elliot tries hugging inanimate objects like trees and lamp
posts. Unfortunately, objects that do not hug back just do not fill the
bill. Poor Elliot almost gives up in despair, but just when things look
hopeless along comes Thelma, another cuddle-starved porcupine. And the
good news is, even porcupines can get hugs if they want them badly
enough. And how do you hug a porcupine? Very carefully.

Everyone needs someone to love is the message of this Patti Stren
classic. The volume is a reissue of an earlier work published in 1977
with comical new drawings by the author. Elliot will charm readers of
all ages. Highly recommended.
