Caillou’s world is a familiar one to any child. From needing new shoes
to trying to be a good big brother, his experiences are recognizable.
In Caillou, New Shoes, Caillou’s friend Sarah has some “fast new
shoes” and he wants a pair just like them. So Caillou and his mother
head off to the store. While he’s there he gets his feet measured. The
shoes he picks are terrific, and Caillou is now set to race Sarah to see
who is the fastest. The book includes a height chart that can be posted
on a wall so that children can monitor their growth.
In Caillou Watches Rosie, Caillou and his little sister are quietly
coloring when his mother asks him to look after Rosie. But this involves
much more than Caillou ever imagined. Rosie decides to draw on the wall
instead of the paper on the desk. When Caillou tries to take away her
crayon, Rosie starts crying, and Mommy comes running. Order is soon
restored with a bucket of soapy water and hugs from Mommy. This book
includes a “good habits chart” that can be posted on a wall so that
children will remember to brush their teeth and put away their toys.
These two books from the Playtime series are adapted from the popular
television show. Children will especially enjoy the tear-out interactive
charts. Highly recommended.
