Review
On Saturday, sisters Sara and Annie did not fight all day, not once. But
when Annie accidentally bumps Sara’s block display while dancing, Sara
pushes her. As it happens, Dad is walking by with the laundry and sees
the push. He, of course, explains to Sara that pushing is not allowed.
Immediately, Sara proclaims that Daddy doesn’t love her any more and
that she is going to run away. When little sister Annie tells Sara that
she loves her, all is forgiven and Sara happily invites her to run away,
too. Off to the backyard they go. When it gets late, Dad offers to put
up a tent for the runaways. He also offers some flashlights, food, and a
bedtime story. Before long the stars come out, then Mommy joins them. In
the end, the entire family, including the pets, end up spending the
night outdoors.
Full-page, coloured-pencil illustrations help tell this amusing story
of how siblings stick together. One minute the girls are angry, and the
next they’re the best of friends. The illustrations nicely capture the
sisters’ interactions and set a cheerful tone throughout the book. And
You Can Come Too is a fun read. Highly recommended.
