Review

Stunning photographs of urban scenes showcase the numbers 1 to 10 in
this delightful concept book. The pictures include 4 bright red subway
doors, 6 toy chicks perched on a fence, and 10 french fries lined up on
a plate. Each facing page features a bulleted number line to reinforce
numeracy skills. The number is also written in lower-case letters.
Double-page spreads of race track lanes, elevator floors, and mail slots
recap the numbers in succession and provide an opportunity to “Count
again. One to ten!”

As in Milich’s previous books, City Colors (2003), City Signs (2002),
and City ABC Book (2001), the page layout is visually striking (for
example, four pairs of pants and boots are arranged in front of fire
engine #8). City 123 will provide young children a great opportunity to
have fun with math. Highly recommended.
