Review

This well-designed, user-friendly dictionary will help children to
understand that a dictionary is a necessary tool in learning the meaning
and use of words. The book’s small size and hard cover permits easy
handling by a young reader. The dictionary defines 6000 words
(selections and definitions are based on Canadian usage and practice),
uses contemporary vocabulary (including computer and Internet language),
features 300 simple illustrations and includes interesting,
easy-to-access appendixes of handy Canadian facts and figures. It also
includes a phonetic pronunciation guide for difficult or ambiguous words
(examples of usage have been added where extensive definition would be
more complicated).

Ken Weber and his experienced team of editorial consultants have
achieved something more sophisticated than a picture dictionary. Indeed,
this is one fine reference that a young reader will return to again and
again. Highly recommended.
