Review

This inspiring book introduces young readers to 10 Canadian women
athletes who have achieved international success in their particular
sport. The book not only profiles the best-known and highest-achieving
athletes like Olympian Bobbie Rosenfeld, it also includes those who have
overcome prejudices, injuries, failing health, financial difficulties,
and lack of national support. These are fiercely competitive and
determined women who in both the past and present have had to face
enormous challenges. Many continue to promote women in sport and remain
publicly active on a variety of important issues.

Jill Bryant’s text is straightforward, informative, and easy to read.
This latest addition to The Women’s Hall of Fame Series is a necessary
addition to school and public libraries. Highly recommended.
