Review
A former career as a clothing and toy designer has given Marthe Jocelyn
all the skills she needed to create this charming book, in which all the
illustrations are made out of cloth cutouts. The reader follows Nellie
on a typical toddler’s day. Nellie wakes up, gets dressed, has
breakfast, plays with her toys, makes a tent out of a sheet and chair,
has a tantrum, takes a nap, has a picnic lunch, swings in her backyard,
watches the bigger kids coming home from school, plays teacher with her
stuffed animals, takes a mud bath and then a real bath, eats spaghetti
for supper, reads a book with her dad, and finally climbs back into bed
to get ready for another action-packed day.
Each illustration, with its imaginative use of materials to create
Nellie’s world, is very entertaining. Wordplay and counting games make
this book a great interactive read. Highly recommended.
