Review

Tired of being lumped in with troublemakers, a group of girls sets out
to prove that Kids Aren’t All Bad (K.A.A.B.). Inspired by one of the
girls’ grandmothers, who had been part of a World War II initiative
for children, the group takes on a common project as well as individual
good deeds. They struggle against a certain amount of cynicism, but
eventually adults start to take them seriously, and the kids begin to
make a difference in their community. They also learn, at a young age,
how to deal with tragedy.

Moulton, who is in her 70s, has written a fast-paced, upbeat novel that
will appeal to preteens. Although the text is peppered with an
exhausting number of exclamation points and verbs such as “shouted”
and “yelled,” The Mysterious K.A.A.B. Club is a page-turner with a
great message: no one can save the world, but everyone, however young,
can do something good. Highly recommended.
