L’Heureux and Desputeaux continue to charm toddlers with their
adorable creation, Caillou. In Caillou Discovers, the youngster
experiences the world around him, including his first smile, playing
with his pet cat, recognizing Daddy’s voice, feeling his blanket,
smelling Mommy, playing with teddy, pulling Mommy’s hair, and tasting
carrots as well as Daddy’s cheek. Caillou, My Birth shows Caillou
living in his Mommy’s tummy, hearing Mommy’s heartbeat and Daddy’s
voice, coming out of Mommy’s tummy, and being held by Daddy. In
Caillou, My Mommy, Doris, the youngster’s mother, cuddles, sings,
rocks, plays, bathes, and feeds him, telling him often how much she
loves him; this book shows a mother’s natural bonding relationship
with her child.
These sturdy board books will undoubtedly encourage communication
between parents and toddlers. The books are designed to focus a young
reader’s attention on the simple illustrations, which are very
appealing in their use of bold, primary colors. Highly recommended.
