Review

When a child’s world seems uncertain, his dog provides security and a
sounding board for his questions and concerns. Stephen Eaton Hume (text)
and Leslie Elizabeth Watts (illustrations) have created a charming story
of a boy whose parents relocate the family from east to west, making the
journey in a pickup truck and camping along the way. When anything
scares the protagonist, such as a bat, he comforts his dog, Gypsy, by
telling her it is just her Guardian Angel. The boy’s mother points out
the red moon, which seems to be following the truck, comparing it to the
love of the parents for their son. The journey is completed, a new home
is found, and the boy and his dog discover that they are happy.
Recommended for children of all ages.
