Review

Four of Franklin’s best-loved books are in one hardcover volume. Young
children can identify with the characters and situations in these simple
and charming stories.

From 1992 we have “Franklin Is Lost.” During a game of
hide-and-seek with his friends, Franklin goes into the woods to look for
Fox and gets lost. Franklin was told not to go into the woods and when
he does not come home for supper his parents try to find him. As it gets
later and darker Franklin becomes frightened. His parents soon find him
and take him home.

From 1995 we have “Franklin Wants a Pet.” The title tells it all.
After discussing with his parents the pros and cons of having a pet
bird, cat, dog, hamster, or bunny, Franklin finally makes up his mind.

Also from 1995 we have “Franklin’s Blanket.” As Franklin gets
bigger and older, his blue blanket’s condition becomes worse and
worse. When the blanket goes missing, Franklin has to struggle to get
along without it. Eventually the blanket and some hidden Brussels
sprouts are found.

From 1995 there is also “Franklin and the Tooth Fairy.” Bear,
Franklin’s best friend, loses his tooth on the way to school. Franklin
has no teeth at all, so Franklin’s friends tell him about the tooth
fairy. Since turtles don’t have teeth, Franklin and his parents find a
way around the dilemma.

Each of these stories has a lesson to teach young children, and
Paulette Bourgeois and Brenda Clark always manage to make it humorous
and palatable through their delightful Franklin the turtle character.
Highly recommended.
