Review

This totally beautiful book will appeal to all children with inquiring
minds. Fireflies are like flying stars, as Millie, the protagonist,
suggests. At first she finds it hard to get her parents interested in
this phenomenon by the lake, but gradually they catch her enthusiasm and
start remembering the fireflies in their own young lives. The experience
of watching these fascinating insects together leads Millie’s parents
to thinking less about their careers and more about spending time with
their daughter.

Jo Ellen Bogart’s charming text is complemented by truly superlative
illustrations by Ginette Beaulieu. This book should be required reading
for all parents with high-powered careers. Highly recommended.
