Review

Maddison enjoys spending time with her Great-Grandma Allen. Maddison
learns about sewing as Great-Grandma Allen rocks and sews aprons for the
church bazaar. As Maddison crawls onto her great-grandma’s lap for a
rest, they rock back in time. The chair becomes a horse and carriage,
then a galloping horse, then a canoe. Maddison has a brief adventure in
each place. Was there really a Great-Grandmother Allen or was it all a
dream?

This is a story about a family, past and present. Young children will
enjoy listening to Maddison’s adventures as she travels back in time
to the pioneer days. Older readers can explore how the lives of their
grandparents and great-grandparents compare to their own lives.

Biberstein’s illustrations tell the story as much as the text. Bright
primary and pastel colors are used to picture Maddison and her
great-grandmother in many different places. The quilt design on the
book’s cover is especially attractive. Recommended.
