Review
Frog unexpectedly learns the hard life lesson, “[b]e careful of what
you wish for, it just may come true.” After daydreaming everyday about
becoming a princess, opportunity knocks when the Prince’s golf ball
splashes into Frog’s pond. The Prince has given his word that he will
give “anything” to the person who returns his golf ball. Frog
happily returns the golf ball to the Prince, but in return she wants to
become his wife, thus making her a princess at last. Much to the chagrin
of the Prince, he offers Frog a day in the life of a princess, but she
has only until midnight to decide if she wants to remain a princess or
not. Frog soon realizes that being a princess is not all that it’s
cracked up to be. One look at a plate of frogs legs being served at the
Royal ball sends her hopping back to her pond.
This modern version of the old Brothers Grimm fairy tale guarantees a
fun read for parents and kids alike. Rosalind Allchin’s text is as
entertaining as her vibrant, energetic, and hilarious illustrations.
Highly recommended.
