Review

Santa Claus from A to Z, from Bobbie Kalman’s AlphBasiCs series,
provides an alphabetical introduction to the symbols and traditions
surrounding the Santa Claus legend. Classic Kalman, this volume contains
a wealth of information about Christmas beliefs and customs around the
world (both past and present) and is filled with colorful, detailed
illustrations. Thought-provoking questions, such as “Do you think that
Saint Nicholas and Santa Claus are the same person? Why do you think
they look so different?”, provide a springboard for lively discussion.
And the ideas for crafts and activities are a godsend for parents and
caregivers looking for ways to occupy their young charges while waiting
for Santa’s arrival.

Though geared to primary-level children, this attractively designed
book would also capture the interest of older students and be a useful
resource for those researching Christmas customs around the world. A
“Words to Know” glossary and an index are included. Highly
recommended.
