Review

In an attempt to stop Marilou from lying, her friends challenge her to a
contest in which the first one to tell a lie will have to wear a
Pinocchio nose for two days. It doesn’t take long before Marilou loses
the bet and has to put on the Pinocchio nose. Adding to her humiliation
is the fact that Freddy Busker, the new boy she has a secret crush on,
sees her. Then another boy, Boris, tries to embarrass her, but
Marilou’s rendition of Cyrano de Bergerac’s poetry outwits him. The
story ends happily.

Raymond Plante, the author of more than 20 books, succeeds once again
in writing an engaging story. More than a lesson on lying, the story is
also about friendship and character. Although the plot is somewhat
predictable, the characters are well developed and believable. Given
that most children know the story of Pinocchio, the incorporation of
Cyrano de Bergerac and his poetry adds something extra to this
delightful chapter book. Highly recommended.
