Lucy and Lenny are two best friends who play together all the time and
always find something to do with their wacky imaginations. Lenny
declares they “are the fearless two” and Lucy sings “Nothing and
no one scares us.” One day, a creature they see on television so
scares Lucy that she has nightmares. She is afraid to tell Lenny,
fearing he’ll he makes fun of her.
Watching the television show yet again, Lucy is terrified as the
creature makes his way out of the swamp. Suddenly there is a horrible
scream; but wait, it isn’t Lucy. Lenny has seen a spider. Lucy saves
Lenny from the spider, and when Lenny finds out that Lucy is actually
afraid of the TV creature, like a true friend he shuts off the
television and they go out to play, using their own imaginations once
more.
This warm and engaging story about overcoming fears and the true
meaning of friendship, is well written and is sure to be read over and
over. Neal Layton’s richly colorful illustrations vividly complement
the story. You just know that Lucy and Lenny have wonderful adventures
together as you are drawn in by the artwork. Highly recommended.
