Review

Alex and her older sister Allie, two Ojibway girls, set out on a moonlit
winter night to climb to the top of Coyote Hill. Along the way they see
a rabbit and a deer and make snow angels. Upon reaching the top of the
hill, they hear the call of a coyote and return its call; then they wait
to see the Sky Spirits—the dance of the Northern Lights.

There is very little to this story. The saving grace of the book is the
lovely pastel illustrations that capture the chill of a wintry night and
the dazzle of the Northern Lights. More about the Ojibway view of nature
and closeness of family would have added interest to the story.
Recommended with reservations.
