Review

Edwin the bear is too excited and curious about winter to miss it.
Besides, he’s not tired. While his family prepares for hibernation, he
sets out to explore, hoping to find a buddy to play with. Since many of
his forest friends are spending their winter asleep, Edwin makes friends
with a hockey team. The boys teach Edwin how to skate and play the game.
By dinnertime, Edwin is hungry and very tired, and goes home to his
worried mother and warm bed. The young bear spends the rest of winter
asleep, dreaming of hockey games and his new friends at the rink.

This wonderfully Canadian story features the simple, bold art of Marc
Tetro and the sport of hockey. Even the players don maple leaf symbols
on their jerseys. Although the handwritten text is slightly distracting,
with its mix of upper- and lowercase letters and neglect of simple rules
of capitalization and punctuation, the story is nonetheless engaging.
Recommended.
