Review

“I went to the farm one summer day, / To see if the animals wanted to
play.”

Unfortunately, the animals ignore the little boy’s toys, invitations,
and friendly hellos. They are busy with their own animal groups, resting
in the summer sun. However, beside the barn, the little boy spies a girl
who is full of energy and eager to play. Together they tumble about,
causing the animals to notice their fun. Soon, the animals are mixing
and mingling, and asking each other to play.

I Went to the Farm is a lively story, proving there is a universal
language of play and “the more the merrier.” Ruth Miller’s use of
rhyme is quick and catchy. Per-Henrik Gьrth’s bright, happy
illustrations bring the playful barnyard scenes to life. Recommended.
