Review
Children who enjoy pretending and playing at make-believe will delight
in reading Elliot’s Shipwreck or having an adult read it to them.
Children who give personalities to their toys and give them dialogue and
activities to carry out will be enchanted by the antics that Elliot,
Socks, and Amy go through on their adventures.
This time, Elliot and Socks forget to put on their lifejackets before
they go out to play on the raft in the pond. Fortunately, before long, a
friend comes to their rescue.
It’s great to realize that even when mistakes occur and you
inadvertently find yourself “stranded”—as Elliot and Socks
do—that you can count on a good friend to help you out. To play
safely, to share, to build, and to have adventures are so much more fun
to carry out when you have, and are, a good friend. Although Elliot’s
Shipwreck is a very smoothly and dramatically written little story with
lush illustrations, the safety issue may need to be addressed.
Recommended with reservations.
