Review

This addition to the Starting with Space series is intended to help
children recognize the major star formations to be seen in the night sky
and begin applying some astronomical concepts to the real world (and
beyond).

In addition to mapping constellations, The Stars offers a thorough
presentation of the physical nature of stars, including such concepts as
black holes and the life and death of stars. The text follows a
question-and-answer format, and a perusal of the questions listed in the
index should lead readers to their topic of interest. Each major section
has a “Try It” follow-up activity that uses simple household items
and sounds both easy and fun to do.

The color illustrations are attractive and informative, and the text
should be accessible to junior-level readers. This book would be an
excellent starting point for young people who want to begin learning
about astronomy in a meaningful context. Highly recommended.
