Review

Making Candles features a collection of candle projects for gift giving
and use at home. More than 20 crafts are covered, from the frosted
cupcake candle and floating water lily to unique molded and painted
versions. In each case, the author provides step-by-step instructions as
well as clear photos and diagrams. Most craft books have a limited shelf
life, but this one is better than most because many of the projects are
accompanied by an “Other Ideas” section (e.g., plain molded candles
can become scented candles or contained candles). Sadler’s safety
precautions are comprehensive and appropriate for children of all ages.

At $5.95, this is a worthwhile purchase for school or home use. The
candles featured are decorative and require only minimal investments in
time and cash. Given the author’s emphasis on incorporating found
objects, these candle projects are environmentally friendly to boot.
Recommended.
