Review

The prevailing modes of education, the author of this book asserts, are
not developing in students the qualities that promote good moral
judgment and character. Following his discussion of the progressive
initiatives in education that occurred 30 years ago, Emberley examines
in depth the relationship between values education and technology. He
systematically analyzes three of the more prominent models of values
education and shows how these models mirror each of the technological
phases. Technology, he concludes, is becoming the context for
society’s understanding of politics and spiritual life. This complex
and provocative study is a must-read for educational policymakers and
general readers alike.
