Review
Of all the stories in the Old Testament, the one about Joseph being sold
into slavery by his brothers, which was followed by an extraordinary
turn of events that led to the saving of his family from starvation, is
perhaps the best loved.
In Joseph, Master of Dreams, Kathleen Cook Waldron retells this classic
tale in a clear and interesting way. All the emotions are present
here—the jealousy of Joseph’s brothers toward their father’s
favorite son; the guilt felt by one of them for what they did; the fear
of famine and the hope of finding food in Egypt; perplexity at the way
they are treated by Pharaoh’s right-hand man; trepidation at having to
deprive their father of his son, Benjamin; and, finally, the joy of
reunion and forgiveness.
The author draws an appealing picture of a young man struggling to
better his situation in life and at the same time maintain his
integrity. Recommended by the publisher as being suitable for Grades 4
to 7, Joseph, Master of Dreams will also be enjoyed by anyone interested
in religious history, humanity, or predestination. Highly recommended.
