Review

Will received his dog, Riley, several Christmases ago. Since then, the
two have become inseparable. They play together, go to the beach
together, walk to school together, sleep in the same room together, and
love Christmases together. Riley is not just a dog, he is Will’s best
friend. One day, Riley becomes sick and has to be taken to the
veterinarian, where he must stay for several days. Will is heartbroken.
As he waits for Riley to get well, he realizes how important the dog is
in his life. While he once wished for a remote-control racing car for
Christmas, now all Will wants is for Riley to return home.

This gentle story, which is simply illustrated with watercolor drawings
in pastel colors, will please any child. Although the story centres
around the Christmas season, it can be read at any time because of its
important themes of love, selflessness, and devotion. Highly
recommended.
