Matthew spends Saturday morning building things with his blocks, then
knocking them down. His afternoon encounter with a demolition crew
starts him wondering—what if they knocked down the wrong building by
mistake? Despite his mother’s assurances that “they check before
they wreck,” around midnight Matthew discovers a wrecking ball and
crane and a fleet of dump trucks outside his house ready to begin work.
Prevented just in time from making a terrible mistake, wrecker Dwayne
enlists Matthew’s help. Locating the proper target easily, Matthew,
Dwayne, and Dwayne’s crew of rabbits quickly and efficiently demolish
the upside-down house.
Young readers of Matthew’s earlier midnight adventures will delight
in this latest offering from Allen Morgan, for what young budding
architect hasn’t enjoyed the wrecking as much, or more, than the
actual building? Fast-paced and action-packed, the book would be an
excellent choice to read aloud, giving the listener the opportunity to
pore over Michael Martchenko’s bright, detailed illustrations.
Recommended.
