Review

Dolls shows young children how to make a variety of characters for play:
worry dolls, dolls of yarn, buttons, clothes pegs, hankies, paper, and
peanuts. Ideas for adapting doll figures to refrigerator magnets,
barrettes, key chains, and pencils are included, along with a suggested
list of useful materials (e.g., pipe cleaners, roly eyes, acrylic
paints, spools, feathers, and even noodles) and different techniques for
making frizzy hair, accessories, and clothes.

This easy-to-use, creative, and imaginative book would be a useful
addition to school and public library craft sections, as well as a
source of ideas for making figures for various games and pioneer display
units. Dolls encourages reusing and recycling fabric, buttons, beads,
and household odds and ends. Suitable for children ages 5 (with help) to
10. Recommended.
