Review

This outstanding book combines travel and history for visitors to, and
residents of, the nations’s capital. Stunning color photographs and a
highly informative, literate text combine to create a terrific book for
children ages 5 and up, and adults too. Its table of contents attests to
its excellent coverage of historical events: exploration of the Ottawa
River, building the Rideau Canal, plus recent celebratory occasions
(Winterlude, Changing the Guard, Festival of Spring). Museums,
galleries, the Parliament buildings, and Bytown are given excellent,
brief historical coverage.

Planning a trip to Ottawa? Buy this book as a travel guide. Living in
Ottawa? Buy this book to rekindle pride in and appreciation of the
nation’s landmarks and history. Learning about Ottawa? Every teacher
should use this book to help tell the history of our capital. Highly
recommended.
