Review

This brightly illustrated book recounts a real-life event. Set in the
Jamaican countryside, the book reveals aspects of rural and urban
Caribbean life at the same time as it describes the experiences of a
preschooler who is adopted by a nonprofit organization from Canada, and
who comes to believe that he has met Santa Claus.

While her illustrations are rich in color, texture, and composition,
Carey-Thompson’s prose is sparse, with few embellishments or sentence
variations appropriate for those under age 7. Not a first-choice
purchase.
