Review

Mrs. Tardy’s class is taking a field trip. She has arranged a school
bus and a ferry to take her class to Bigby Island. Unfortunately,
everyone makes it onto the bus except Mrs. Tardy. So begins a chase
sequence involving a rusty car, a rickety bike, a wobbly skateboard, a
creaky boat, a leaky boat, and a garbage truck.

Mrs. Tardy’s luck is so consistently bad there is a danger that this
story could eventually become tedious. Fortunately, Suzan Reid’s
imaginative writing always keeps the story moving at a brisk pace.
Catherine MacKenzie’s artwork complements the writing perfectly. Each
page is a combination of detail and humor that captures the reader
entirely. Recommended.
