Review

Nine-year-old Sarah and David love to invent things like machines to
wash sand, worm pickers, and other labor-saving devices. When they
decide that what every household needs is a chocolate chip cookie-making
machine, they enlist the help of their siblings as models. Miraculously
the plan works and trays of cookies result.

The Fabulous Chocolate Chip Cookie Machine is a mediocre story with an
unsatisfactory ending, and with very ordinary illustrations and ideas.
Although a pleasant enough read for 3- to 5-year-olds, it will have
little appeal for 6- or 7-year-olds, or even for would-be inventors. Not
a first-choice purchase.
